Capturing the same family every year is one of my favorite things about being a family photographer- but it is also one of the most challenging things because I constantly want each year and session to look unique, feel different, and expand on my artistic ability.

To accomplish this I chatted with Nichole ( The Mother) and we talked about three things to help create the vision.

1) Discuss wardrobe and feeling of session. (Do you want a casual look, dressy, retro, etc.)

2) Location, Location, Location.  The location of the shoot is so important- It sets the tone, theme, and mood of the whole session. Think carefully about where your family spends time and how you want them to interact with that space during the session.

3) Time of day- This is almost as important as location- For this family session we wanted warm earth tones, so we chose to shoot in a field during the golden hour- making our final images feel warm, earth, and golden.
